Virginia Affordability Project Seeks Community Voices and Paid Canvassers in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania

The Virginia Affordability Project is continuing its grassroots effort to hear directly from residents about one of the most pressing issues facing families across the Commonwealth: the rising cost of everyday life.

Led by Dr. Lorita Daniels, the project centers on listening, learning, sharing and finding solutions together. Its goal is to create space for everyday Virginians to talk openly about the financial pressures affecting their households—from housing and groceries to childcare, transportation, utilities and other essential expenses.

As part of that effort, the Virginia Affordability Project is now recruiting paid canvassers in Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania to connect directly with residents, share resources and encourage more people to take part in the affordability conversation.

Canvassers will work in local neighborhoods, knocking on doors, engaging with residents and helping spread information about the project. Young adults are also encouraged to participate.

Participants can choose how often they would like to work, with opportunities available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Canvassing Schedule:

  • Saturdays: 11:00 AM in Spotsylvania

  • Sundays: 1:00 PM in Fredericksburg

  • Compensation: $75 for two hours of work

  • Role: Knock on doors, engage neighbors and share community resources

The Virginia Affordability Project says the larger mission is not simply to talk about rising costs, but to hear directly from the people experiencing those challenges and bring community voices into conversations about possible solutions.

Residents who have a story, concern, idea or solution are encouraged to get involved.

For more information about joining the canvassing team, call 540-495-0980 or email VAaffordabilityproject@yahoo.com.

The message behind the initiative is simple: Virginia’s affordability conversation should include the voices of the people who live it every day
